Birdwatching in Wishing Well Wood

News and Events, Things to Do

We have just added some new bird feeders in to Wishing Well Wood.  Set up so that from the comfort of a bench overlooking our big pond you can quietly watch the visitors that come to the feeding station.  Over the course of an hour we watched, Great Tits, Willow Tits (though they could have been Marsh Tits), Blue Tits and best of all a sole Long Tailed Tit.  All the while other birds including buzzards moved between the trees.  For those with lots of patience we have even seen Kingfishers frequent our pond.

If you want to go further afield for birdwatching, a short drive from our cottages is the Great Yorkshire Forest consisting of Dalby Forest, Cropton Forest and Langlade Forest. In the Great Yorkshire Forest you can see nightjars (or maybe just hear them!), goshawks and occasionally white tailed eagles.

With the help of the North York Moors National Park, we have attained “Nature Friendly” status.  This means that we provide such extras as binoculars, birding guides and maps, as well supporting and providing an environment within our grounds to help nature thrive.  We can also put you in touch with local companies who can provide a bespoke birdwatching experience just for you.
