Books by the Beach 2020

News and Events, Things to Do

The 2020 Books by the Beach 2020 literature festival  will take place in nearby Scarborough from the  Friday 24 April through to Sunday 26 April 2020.

From the press release…

“2020 brings a feast of personal stories from a life-saving paramedic to a lone hiker whose survival in the USA desert made international headlines. A high profile hostage negotiator shares tales of the Middle East and we release secret diaries from behind UK prison bars.

The bicentenary of Anne Bronte’s birth is this year’s classic launch, set at St. Mary’s Church, below the castle. Ancient Egypt offers up ‘Secrets from the Coffin’ and there’s eye watering yarns of Icelandic seas at the yacht club & lighthouse.

Fictional crime and suspense worlds are reflected through spy glasses and there’s an unmissable chiller dinner at The Crescent Hotel. There’s a new slant on Shakespeare’s most famous play and we look back at the ups and downs of the last decade. TV hit Grantchester comes to the SJT and a star shines brightly at the Spa.

From family drama to life changing health choices there’s something for everyone at this year’s festival. Tickets on sale soon at Stephen Joseph Theatre Box Office.”

In Isolation

As we are now in "lockdown" with no guests for the foreseeable, we thought it would be an opportunity to get tradesmen to make good our new home and make improvements as well - of course they are in lock down too and in isolation themselves!  I guess we didn't think...

Covid-19 and all that…

Not the best of weeks to be taking over a business with Covid-19 landing on these shores. We are still open, with our 2 acres of grounds and easy access to the North York Moors and Dalby Forest. However, with COVID-19 we are taking all reasonable precautions to ensure...
