Clyvedon Castle and Clyvedon (aka Castle Howard and Coneysthorpe)

Places to Eat, Places to Visit, Walking

Clyvedon and the land of Bridgerton

On Sunday we went for a walk around the Castle Howard Estate.  Many of you will probably recognise Castle Howard as Clyvedon Castle, home of the Duke and Duchess of Hastings in the Netflix series “Bridgerton”.

First, we started off with bacon rolls and espresso in the bakery Dogh in the village of Welburn situated in the Howardian Hills, before striking out on our roughly 7 mile walk on easy farm tracks.  Throughout the walk we could pick out some of the buildings on the Estate, firstly the Pyramid, then the Mausoleum, the “Castle” itself and finally the Pyramid again.

Along the way we visited the small and picturesque Estate village of Coneysthorpe, which doubles as the village of Clyvedon in Bridgerton.

There are many well marked trails around the area, which with an Ordnance Survey map you could make your own walk up to suit your abilities.  We chose to start and finish in Welburn, as it allowed us to have a pint and share a plate of chips at the Crown and Cushion in Welburn at the end of our walk.
