Helmsley Walled Garden wins award

News and Events, Places to Visit, Things to Do

Local attractions Helmsley Walled Garden and Scampston Walled Gardens have both recently won ‘hidden gem’ awards in VisitEngland’s Visitor Attraction Accolades 2020-21. Congratulations to them both!

Helmsley Walled Garden, which could be inspiration for The Secret Garden is just 35 minutes drive away from our self catering holiday cottages on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. A visit to Helmsley Walled Garden can be rolled up with a visit to the market town of Helmsley itself and English Heritage’s Helmsley Castle. The cafe at Helmsley Walled Garden is rather good and well worth a visit for a spot of light lunch. For those that want get the most out their day you can walk/drive to nearby Rievaulx Abbey as well.

Scampston Walled Garden is the closest attraction to us and is just over the other side of the Vale of Pickering from us at Cliff House Holiday Cottages (8 miles and a 15 minute drive). During the summer season there are tours available of Scampston Hall and you can always walk in the the parklands around the hall. Scampston also has a great little cafe and a small selection of plants to buy.

Scampston and Helmsley are just a few of the many gardens that open to public that are a short drive from our self catering holiday cottages. Visit our website for more details of things to do in the local area.

Our five holiday cottages in North Yorkshire are just on the edge of the North York Moors National Park and 20 minutes from the Yorkshire Coast.  Half way between the market town of Pickering and the seaside town of Scarborough, we offer a perfect year round base for exploring the foodie delights of the area.  Our range of five cottages include a 6 person cottage with one en suite and a further 2 bathrooms, as well as smaller cottages suitable for couples and people travelling own their own.  All of our cottages are set within 2 acres of grounds, are dog friendly and all cottages have access to our indoor heated swimming pool.
