Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes

News and Events, Places to Visit

First it was the Hairy Bikers, now its Robson Green!

Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes – you may have missed it lurking in the schedules of BBC 2.  But there is a very gentle and entertaining programme with Robson Green (of Solider Soldier fame (amongst other things)) exploring areas of the North East.

In the first season of Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes in Episode 2 he joins actor Mark Benton as they explore around Saltburn in the very North of North Yorkshire (just before it becomes County Durham!). After Saltburn they head to Staithes, an old picturesque fishing village nestled between the cliffs of the Yorkshire Coast.

Staithes is just over an hours drive away across the beautiful North York Moors from our cottages at Cliff House Holiday Cottages. After a day exploring come back and spend time in our pool or relax in our two acres of grounds.

In Episode 3, Robson Green meets up with footballer Jill Scott.  They visit nearby Helmsley Walled Garden to learn more about its history. Robson later, on his own, visits the National Centre for Birds of Prey  (which is also in Helmsley) to learn more about the birds that Centre looks after.  Our youngest volunteers at the National Centre for Birds of Prey and always comes way buzzing with excitement.

Both are a 40 minute drive from ourselves at Cliff House and can be combined with a visit to Helmsley Caste and a walk around the market town itself.

In Season Two, Robson Green and fellow actor Tessa Peake-Jones from the series Grantchester explore the North York Moors National Park and Rosedale in particular.  Rosedale is an area steeped in mining history and has a fantastic walk all the way around the edge of the valley with some spectacular views.
