Scampston Hall Gardens and Jackson’s Wold Garden

Our Journey, Places to Visit, Things to Do

Why visit one country garden, when you can visit two?  With Scampston Hall Gardens and Jackson’s Wold Garden so close to each other, a visit was in order.

Scampston Hall Gardens

Scampston Hall Gardens, as the name implies is a part of the larger Scampston Hall Estate. The gardens are just 15 minutes away from Cliff House on the other side of the Vale of Pickering.  The opening times of the gardens varies, usually Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday but do check on the Estate website.

Aside from the gardens you can walk around the grounds of the Estate and at the height of the summer season there are guided tours of the Hall itself.  In the garden there is a tea room providing light lunches and of course cake.

One thing to note is that dogs are not allowed in the walled gardens, so take it in turns whilst one sits in the tea room.

Jackson’s Wold Garden

16 minutes from Scampston Hall and with a pull up hill on to the Yorkshire Wolds there is Jackson’s Wold.  Jackson’s Wold is a private garden that is only open on a number of days throughout the year.  From Jackson’s Wold you can see across the Vale of Pickering to the other side where Cliff House is.

The gardens represent what to many is a classic English Country Garden and have been a labour of love for the owners since they took the property in the 1980’s.  On the days that they are open (check their website for more details).  Tea, coffee and cake are available and you can also purchase plants as well that you well see as you explore the gardens.
